Biochemistry Students Earn Summer Research Awards

Sixteen undergraduate students have earned 2023 summer research awards from the Department of Biochemistry. A list of this year’s Mary Shine Peterson Award and Undergraduate Summer Research Award recipients and their faculty mentors can be found below. Congratulations to all of this year’s awardees!

Mary Shine Peterson Award

This prestigious undergraduate award is designed to recognize UW-Madison Biochemistry undergraduate students with demonstrated excellence in and commitment to research by providing up to $5,000 to support biochemistry-relevant activities during the summer session before their senior year and/or during their senior year. Activities for support from this award include conducting faculty-advised research on campus or overseas, traveling overseas to participate in a global health program, and/or traveling to a scientific meeting to present a research-oriented poster or paper.

Summer Research Award

This award provides $4,000 in support to aid biochemistry undergraduates in gaining focused, full-time research experience early in their academic careers. Award recipients work in a lab at UW–Madison full-time during the summer and submit a research report of approximately 500 to 1,000 words at the end of the summer term.
