Dr. Widner grew up in the Driftless region of Wisconsin and did her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point before going to Yale University for her Ph.D. She moved back to Wisconsin in 2021 and spent a few years as a postdoc in the Chemistry Department before joining the Biochemistry Department as a Teaching Faculty.
As an instructor, Dr. Widner strives to provide an environment that gets students excited about science while also challenging them to think deeply about the concepts central to biochemistry. She is particularly focused on incorporating examples that blur the barrier between the molecular and everyday world.
