Order Inquiry & Shipping
Order Inquiry
To inquire about an order you can stop in the Biochemistry Office or email purchasing@biochem.wisc.edu. Please either email the form directly from the Biochemistry Purchasing System (BPS) or refer to the BPS number assigned to the order. If you do not want to wait for us to get back to you, please feel free to contact the company yourself. The vendor contact information and order details are both accessible within BPS.
Shipping
Purchasing can help you ship your packages! USPS, FedEx and UPS shipping materials are located in the Biochemistry Office and at the loading dock. Stop by, email or call for assistance. The University receives discounts with both UPS and FedEx. The department has one FedEx number for the whole department. Because we all share one FedEx number it is especially important to follow shipping instructions so that we know which lab each charge belongs to.
US Postal Service (USPS)
The US Postal Service mail is delivered/picked up daily around 3:00PM. Outgoing USPS mail can be dropped in the Outgoing US Mail box within the mailbox area outside Room 111, HF DeLuca Biochemistry Laboratories
For questions about incoming USPS mail, please contact Sarah Saunders - slsaunders2@wisc.edu

Below are examples of properly completed FedEx forms.
FedEx Packaging Policy
Due to a change in policy, the following procedure for shipping packages by FedEx became effective October 21, 2015:
- Styrofoam containers may no longer be used as the main (external) packaging container.
- Styrofoam containers may be placed inside corrugated boxes if the contents need to be insulated or protected.
- This does not alter the existing policy for shipments containing dry ice.
If you are re-using a box you must cover up or remove all previous labels, stickers, or barcodes. Using a sharpie to black out labels is not always enough. These packages may still be returned to the sender. Please use the white or black duct tape located in the main office to completely cover old labels.
FedEx Dry Ice Procedure
Due to a change in policy, the following procedure for shipping packages containing dry ice by FedEx became effective May 15, 2015:
- Styrofoam container containing dry ice must be securely sealed with a dry ice sticker completed and attached to side of container.
- Place the styrofoam container inside a corrugated box. The corrugated box must also have a dry ice sticker completed and attached to the side of the box.
- Attach the shipping label to the top of the corrugated box.
Corrugated boxes are not provided by the department. Please recycle boxes that have been used to ship other items, removing labels as needed and adding any necessary filler to prevent the styrofoam container from shifting inside the corrugated box. Extra corrugated boxes may be available at the loading dock.
Shipments, which do not follow the above packaging guidelines, may be returned to the sender causing a delay in delivery.
UPS
The UPS Drop Box is located inside the HF DeLuca Biochemistry Laboratories building and at the Loading Dock in HF DeLuca Biochemical Sciences Building. It is on the first floor near the southwest entrance. Daily pick-up is normally scheduled for 5:00 PM.
All UPS labels are created online, please see Purchasing in room 111 for assistance.
The Departmental UPS number should NOT be noted. If UPS needs it, the number is coded into the tracking number already imprinted on the form.
Please note: UPS is not supposed to accept packages left on the ground near the UPS Drop Box. If a package does not fit in the Drop Box, please bring it to the loading dock at 440 Henry mall to be sent out.
