Sharps Disposal

Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) provides a Sharps Poster that can be posted with information about the various types of sharps and their disposal procedures.  For more detailed sharps disposal information please see the EH&S Sharps Disposal page.

Biochemistry Sharps Disposal Process

It is the responsibility of the lab staff to properly dispose of “sharps”.

  1. Place approved sharps (see above guides) in your lab's small sharps container.  For other sharps please follow the appropriate disposal procedures outlined in the links above.

  2. When the small sharps container is full, please take it to the sharps container collection bin (MERI container) that is located in the loading dock of the HF DeLuca Biochemistry Laboratories Building or or in the hallway to the loading dock in the HF DeLuca Biochemical Science Building. Please place sharps container into the Meri container. No individual sharps should be in the Meri container. Lock combination is 1848.
