Fueled by the advent of sensitive, high-throughput genomic technologies such as NGS and microarrays, the discovery of new long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) has seen a tremendous acceleration in the past several years. We have also witnessed a steep rise in interest in the study of their roles in a multitude of processes, from embryonic development to disease progression (cancer, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, ...). During this presentation, we will discuss what actually constitutes a lncRNA, the roles they play and the different approaches to study them
